In 2024, I participated in Open for the Holidays, a group exhibition curated by Matías Costa at Sala Amós Salvador, alongside twenty-nine photographers including Alejandra Carles-Tolrá, Ana Maisonave, Bernardita Morello, Carlos Traspaderne, Carmenchu Alemán, Cristóbal Hara, David Salcedo, Eduardo Nave, Imanol Legross, Israel Ariño, Javier Izquierdo, Jerónimo Álvarez, Jordi Bernadó, Jorge Fuembuena, Juan Millás, Juan Valbuena, Juanan Requena, Laura C. Vela, Lurdes R. Basolí, Manuel Sonseca, Manuela Lorente, María Sánchez, Miren Pastor, Navia, Rocío Aguirre, Sergio Belinchón, Sonsoles Calzado, Txema Salvans and Valery Katsuba. The exhibition was on view from 6 June to 18 August 2024.
Bringing together more than 150 works, the exhibition explored the relationship between travel and image-making, considering how periods of leisure can become opportunities to observe, discover and produce photographs that move beyond the everyday.
Inspired by Fernando Pessoa’s idea of travel as a reflection of the self, the exhibition unfolded across six thematic chapters: The Journey, Landscapes in Transit, Family and Other Animals, States of Exception, End of Summer, and Reel.
Photography was presented in dialogue with excerpts from summer cinema, creating a visual conversation between still and moving images that examined both the experience of travel and the photographer’s gaze in motion. My work contributed to this collective narrative.
Open for the Holidays celebrated photography’s ability to transform ordinary experience into a space for reflection and discovery, while highlighting the distinct perspective of each participating artist.
