Background was selected as a finalist in the 10th BAFFEST Women Photographers Award, with the final stage of the competition taking place on 18 October 2025 at the Clara Campoamor Civic Centre in Barakaldo.
The event brought together public presentations of the nine shortlisted projects alongside a programme of activities dedicated to contemporary photography. The finalists were Ana Padró (Endo), Carla Oset (Background), Femias (collective, Mujeres por defecto), Gloria Oyarzabal (Usu fructus abusus), Marta González (Carne de perro), Mendía Echeverría (890 km a Volary), Rebeca Mayorga (Simuladores de dios), Silvia Ayerra (Diente de leche), and Sonia Celma (Columna).
In this tenth edition, the jury awarded the two main prizes to Mendía Echeverría for 890 km a Volary and Silvia Ayerra for Diente de leche. Background received an Honourable Mention, recognising the project’s artistic quality and contribution to the competition.
