Character Makeup & Transformation Reportage

This photographic series was created to document the character transformation process for Superestar, the Netflix series created by Nacho Vigalondo and co-directed with Claudia Costafreda.

The project captures the different stages of the actors’ transformations, focusing on the technical work carried out by the hair, makeup, and prosthetics departments. It documents a meticulous, cumulative process in which each element is layered to construct complex screen identities. In the case of Superestar, this transformation is especially significant, as the series reimagines well-known figures from Spanish popular culture, such as Tamara (Yurena), whose recreation requires a careful balance between authenticity, performance, and contemporary reinterpretation.

Through photography, the series records key moments throughout the character transformation process, combining finished portraits with behind-the-scenes images taken in the makeup trailer and dressing rooms. The work focuses on the spaces, rhythms, and gestures that accompany each transformation, as well as the materials and tools that make the process possible.
