In astronomy, the Roche limit is the minimum distance at which an object can orbit a much larger body before being torn apart by gravitational forces. Once this threshold is crossed, the difference in gravity acting on the object’s near and far sides exceeds its own ability to hold itself together, causing it to disintegrate. Beyond the Roche limit, there is no return.
